Taken from the Hermitage in Leningrad and the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow the 56 color paltes represent the best oils, gouaches, watercolors, and drawings from the artist's early period, 1900-1914, a time when he was not yet fully recognized in France but was held in high esteem among Russian collectors.
