Each volume is 40pp in soft wrappers. These volumes are somewhat dusty, but apart from the volume for 1890 where the title cover is torn with some loss, are in remarkably good condition. The contents cover the usual almanac subjects of calendars, phases of the moon, eclipses etc. In addition for each year most of the content is devoted to huckster-style quack promotion of Dr Jaynes patent medicines - which cure every possible illness. Jaynes 'Alterative' for example, is claimed to be effective "for the cure of Scrofula; Kings Evil; White Swellings; Ulcers; Scrofulous; Cancerous and Indolent Tumours; Mercurial Affections; Goiter or Bronchocele; Enlargement and Ulceration of the Bones, Joints, Glands or Ligaments or of the Liver, Spleen, Kidneys, etc; all the various diseases of the Skin, such as Tetter or Salt Rheum, Ringworm, Boils, Pimples, Carbuncles, Sore Eyes etc; Dyspepsia and Liver complaints; Nervous Affections; Epileptic Fits; Chorea or St Vitus Dance; Dropsy and Dropsical swellings; Constitutional Disorders; and diseases originating from a depraved and imperfect state of the blood or other fluids of the body; all diseases of a mixed or complicated character and those arising from an abnormal or unnatural discharge or, or cessation of, the natural secretions." And that is just one of the product lines!! This is wonderful stuff. Enough to give the FDA nightmares.
