This copy is numbered 506. Published in 1599 by William Jaggard under the name of William Shakespeare, the Bard was actually the author of only four of the poems included. The authorship of others is contested. The four poems are close approximations of excerpts from Loves Labours Lost and appear to have been in private circulation before "real" publication.
