First edition, first printing. Duodecimo black cloth with title labels bearing black lettering to top board and spine. 355pp. Date (1929) to title page and copyright statement with Scribners crest to copyright page. Initials to endpaper. Cloth is moderately worn and title label to spine is darkened and has vertical crease marks of a lighter shade. Pages beginning to tone.

Octavo, orange cloth backstrip and green covered boards. Vg in worn, chipped dustwrapper. The dustwrapper is price-clipped in the position that usually states the "Book Club" status, so I presume that is its origin.

Octavo, full burgundy leather with four raised bands to spine and extensive gilt decoration to both boards and spine. Gilt titling to spine. All edges gilt. Scarlet silk moiré endpapers and ribbon place marker. 314pp. A waterstain affects the bottom portion of the text-block. Externally unaffected. A limited edition, published exclusively for subscribers to The Franklin Library collection, The 100 Greatest Books of All Time. Accompanying this volume is a small booklet of 22pp providing biographical notes and background.
