Thompson, Maurice and Will H. How to Train In Archery. Being a Complete Study of the York Round. New York. E I Horsman. 1879 First Edition First edition. Duodecimo (5.75in x 4.25in) blue-gray cloth with gilt and black titling and decoration to top board and blindstamped decorative device to the rear board. [vi], 74pp, followed by 4pp adverts. All pages are edges with red ruling. There is some fading to the fore-edge of the top board and just a little loss of color to the margins and spine folds of the boards. There is a small dimple size bump to the tip edge of the top board. Else this is a tight and clean copy in exceptional condition and is Vg. It sits in its own specially made slipcase which has marbled panels and a blue cloth spine with gilt titling to a red leather panel on the spine of the slipcase. This book is astonishingly rare in First Edition and a copy in this condition has not appeared for over 20 years (not recorded on American Book Prices Current for over 20 years). The full title for this book is: How to Train in Archery, Being a Complete Study of the York Round. Comprising An Exhaustive Manual of Long-Range Bow Shooting for the Use of Those Archers Who Wish to Become Contestants at The Grand National Association meetings. This title is described in various web-sites devoted to archery as one of the most desirable tiles to own and, at the same time, acknowledges that it is almost never going to be obtainable in First Edition.
