First edition. Octavo (8.5in x 6in) brown cloth with gilt titling to spine and blindstamped rope design to both boards. xvi, 464pp. 39 engravings. Original albumen photograph frontispiece of Admiral Farragut. Head and heel of spine is frayed with loss of cloth and there is a two inch split to the cloth at the head of the spine. Corner tips are rubbed. Front hinge is cracked.
