Duodecimo, green cloth with titling to top board and spine. 133pp. Cloth is patchily mottled. A good portion of the dustwrapper spine is missing and tear along the top edge has taken off a portion of the title. The dustwrapper is in two pieces. Pasted to the pastedown is a newspaper clipping, dated 1937, of a photograph of the author. Signed by the author to the endpaper, with an inscription to the Rev Cornelius Greenway. Loosely inserted is an interesting typed letter signed by Jesse Goldstein to Rev Greenway, dated April 11, 1943. In part it reads, "Many thanks for your kind letter and for your interest in my work and in the life of Edwin Markham. Indeed, though I believe it slips your mind, you and I have met. ….when I was just beginning my work on the biography. You were kind enough to let me see your Markhamia and I made some notes. I have now completed nine chapters on my book and I estimate that represents about one tenth of the entire work …. I have made a trip to California for research in court records concerning various aspects of his life and I have spoken to many people who still remember him. Markham's biography must necessarily be a full one for he had a full life …. I have unearthed a multitude of items as interesting as ….. and I shall be able to correct many errors of fact already in print." Apparently not, because there seems to be no record of a Markham biography by Goldstein.
